My new computer

Dateline: January 9, 2004.

The new computer seems to be working very well. I don't recall having any problems with it so far. It is very fast, and seems very reliable. I recently moved it into a computer cabinet that I found. I also moved all the network stuff and the UPS into that. Finally, I set up my printer downstairs (where I do most of my printing).

Dateline: October 11, 2004.

The old computer broke down. I have no idea which particular piece isn't working but it wouldn't boot. If it did boot, it wouldn't stay booted. I decided to go to Micro Center and get a new motherboard. They had a great deal where you get a motherboard and CPU for $79.99 after rebates then if you buy it on a new Micro Center card, they give you another $100 rebate! Of course, they are counting on people buying a bunch of other stuff ... which I did.

I used the old hard disk so that I wouldn't have to completely reinstall, but I will eventually transfer all of that to the 80GB drive. It's in the box but not running. I kept the 100GB secondary drive as well.

In all, with tax, the total was $291.31 after rebates. It broke down as follows:

Part Cost
AMD Sempron 2400+ 74.93
Soyo Sy-K7VME KM400 Motherboard 69.99
1 512 MB Simm 104.99
80 GB Hard Drive 69.99
ATX Case 30.14
DVD-Rom/CDRW 52.99
Instant Rebate on Motherboard (15.00)
Tax 23.28
Mail-in Rebate on Motherboard/CPU (50.00)
Credit Card Rebate on Motherboard/CPU (100.00)
